- The Cardano Summit was canceled after a 7.8M ADA funding proposal failed to pass governance approval.
- The vote highlights ongoing disputes over Cardano treasury spending.
The Cardano Summit, one of the most anticipated events in the ecosystem, has been officially canceled after a community funding proposal failed to meet the required approval threshold. The decision follows a governance vote that highlighted ongoing disagreements over how treasury funds should be used within the network.
Community Rejects 7.8 Million ADA Funding Request
The cancellation came after a proposal seeking 7.8 million ADA, worth about $1.84 million, failed to secure the required two-thirds majority approval. Although 65.2% of voters supported the request, it fell short of the 66.67% threshold needed for passage.
Voting records showed 135 participants in favor, 61 against, and 24 abstentions. The proposal aimed to fund the Cardano Summit scheduled for October 5–6 in Singapore.
Governance requires not only participation, but also a commitment to accept collective decisions. The Cardano community has spoken and we respect the outcome.

Following the outcome of the Treasury proposal votes, the Cardano Foundation's proposed Cardano Summit 2026, will not…
In response, the Cardano Foundation stated that it would respect the outcome of the vote and proceed accordingly.
Governance Tensions Shape Treasury Decisions
The rejected proposal is part of a broader debate within Cardano over treasury spending and decision-making authority.
Delegated representatives, known as DReps, have increasingly pushed for tighter controls on how funds are allocated. Earlier, a separate proposal requesting around 14 million ADA for the same event was also rejected, receiving only about 10% support from DReps.
This repeated rejection reflects growing concern about transparency, accountability, and whether large treasury expenditures should go through more competitive approval processes.
Charles Hoskinson and Governance Debate Intensifies
The dispute has also drawn attention from Charles Hoskinson, who has been vocal about reviewing governance systems and decision-making structures.
Would there be any appetite to scale up the booth at Token2049 and host an embedded MiniSummit with Token? We could do a hackathon with a large ada prize and have a stage for Cardano ventures to present. Subsidize some of the larger projects to attend? https://t.co/92dGSFycxx

He recently announced a broader review of decentralized governance models, focusing on budgeting, roadmap control, and executive functions. He also suggested possible governance upgrades through Cardano’s constitutional process and hinted at future participation as a DRep.
These discussions show a clear divide between ecosystem leadership and parts of the governance community over financial priorities and long-term planning.
EMURGO and TOKEN2049 Plans Move Forward
Despite the cancellation of the summit, the ecosystem will still have a presence at TOKEN2049 in Singapore. EMURGO secured approval to represent Cardano at the event scheduled for October 7–8.
EMURGO & Yoroi have voted "Yes" on the Cardano at TOKEN2049 Singapore 2026: Baseline 'Platinum' Sponsorship Proposal, and we want to be straightforward about what led us there.

Our initial intention was to ABSTAIN on this proposal, given we are the proposer. However, two…
There is also discussion around expanding Cardano’s participation through a larger booth and possibly hosting a smaller “mini-summit” during the conference.
What This Means for Cardano Going Forward
The cancellation of the summit highlights how decentralized governance directly impacts real-world ecosystem plans. While some see the vote as a setback, others view it as a sign of an active and independent community.
At the same time, ADA continues to face market pressure, trading near key support levels. Traders are watching closely to see whether sentiment and governance clarity can support a stronger outlook in the coming months.
The outcome of these debates may shape how future Cardano events and treasury-funded initiatives are structured, especially as governance discussions continue to evolve.
