- Ethereum is consolidating near $1,954 within a symmetrical triangle, facing key support at $1,900 and resistance at $2,050.
- Analysts warn a breakdown could push ETH toward $1,500, while a breakout may target $2,300.
Ethereum (ETH) trades near $1,954, approaching a critical juncture as its symmetrical triangle pattern tightens. Open interest has risen slightly to $26.10 billion, signaling traders are bracing for a decisive move in the coming days.
Analyst Warns of 22% Decline to $1,500
Max Shannon, senior research associate at Bitwise, cautions that Ethereum risks a 22% crash to $1,500, potentially marking its worst seven-month slump since 2018. ETH currently trades 55% below its December highs above $4,300, and a drop to $1,500 would bring it just 6% above February’s $1,588 low. The 2018 bear market remains a cautionary tale, as Ethereum fell 94% from peak to trough over seven months.
Shannon’s warning emphasizes the critical importance of the $1,900 support level within Ethereum’s symmetrical triangle. A failure to hold this support could accelerate selling pressure, pushing ETH closer to its target.
Staking Milestone Figures Are Misleading
Recent claims that 50% of Ethereum’s supply is staked have been disputed by analysts. Luke Nolan of CoinShares clarified that while around 80 million ETH have passed through the Beacon staking contract historically, only 37 million ETH, or roughly 31% of the supply, is actively staked.
This discrepancy matters because overstating staking levels can create false narratives about supply constraints. Even at 31%, staking remains significant, with validators including major institutions like Bitmine and U.S.-listed ETFs continuing to drive growth.
Market Prepares for Symmetrical Triangle Resolution
Ethereum’s 4-hour chart shows the token consolidating in a symmetrical triangle, with resistance near $2,050 and support at $1,900.

Open interest in derivatives is rising while spot volume declines, suggesting traders anticipate volatility but are unsure of the direction.

Long/short ratios indicate a rare short bias among top traders, reflecting expectations of potential downside. The apex of the triangle is approaching, signaling a breakout or breakdown in the next few days.
Outlook: Can ETH Hold $1,900?
If Ethereum closes above $2,050, it could reach $2,300, invalidating the $1,500 crash scenario. Conversely, a breakdown below $1,900 could expose $1,800, with further risk toward $1,500 if selling accelerates. For now, traders are watching key levels closely as Ethereum navigates this decisive period.
