Ethereum Price Falls Sharply After Breaking $2,000 Support

eTHEREUM GRAPH SHOWING RESSISTANCE AND SUPPORT LEVELS
  • Ethereum fell to near $1,910 after breaking $2,000 as heavy selling and forced liquidations intensified across the crypto market.
  • Traders are now watching whether selling pressure fades or signals a deeper confidence reset.

Ethereum is under renewed pressure after a sharp selloff pushed its price back toward levels last seen in mid-2025. The drop highlights how quickly risk sentiment can shift in crypto when leverage and liquidity collide.

Ethereum Breaks $2,000 as Selling Accelerates

As of February 5, 2026, Ethereum traded near $1,910, marking a daily decline of about 10.6%. The move followed a volatile session that saw ETH swing between roughly $2,139 and a low near $1,757. What stood out was not just the size of the drop, but its speed. This was a rapid repricing rather than a gradual decline, catching many traders off guard.

The break below the psychologically important $2,000 level proved critical. Once that support gave way, selling intensified across the market. Bitcoin also fell sharply, reinforcing the broader risk-off tone and adding pressure to high-beta assets like ETH.

Why Ethereum Is Falling Faster Than Expected

Several factors are overlapping to drive Ethereum lower. A cautious mood has taken hold across global markets, and crypto often absorbs outsized losses when investors pull back from risk. Ethereum, positioned at the center of the decentralized finance and application ecosystem, tends to feel these shifts quickly.

Leverage has also played a major role. As prices dropped, leveraged long positions were forced to unwind. Margin calls triggered liquidations, pushing prices lower and creating a self-reinforcing cycle. This dynamic helps explain ETH’s deep intraday dip into the mid-$1,700s, a sign of stress selling rather than routine profit-taking.

ETF flow psychology added another layer of pressure. Recent periods of uneven demand and redemptions have weighed on sentiment, feeding concerns that institutional interest may be cooling, even if the longer-term picture remains mixed.

Ethereum vs. Bitcoin: A Familiar Pattern

While bitcoin traded near $64,914 after dipping below $61,000, its percentage loss was smaller than Ethereum’s. This fits a common pattern during deleveraging events. Ethereum is tied to more narratives, from network usage to application demand, which can amplify both gains and losses. In downturns, that broader exposure often leads to steeper declines.

What the Market Is Watching Next

The focus now is on whether this move represents a short-term reset or the start of a deeper downturn. Traders are watching closely to see if liquidation pressure fades, if ETH can reclaim the $2,000 level, and whether broader risk assets begin to stabilize.

Ethereum’s slide is a reminder that market structure can outweigh fundamentals in the short run. Even strong long-term narratives can be overwhelmed by leverage and liquidity stress. The coming sessions should clarify whether this was mainly a forced unwind that can stabilize, or a wider confidence shift that keeps pressure on ETH through February.
