Ethereum Price Rises 1.9% as BitMine Nears 5% ETH Holdings

  • Ethereum price has recovered to around $2,443 as the MPBC upgrade goes live and BitMine nears a 5% ETH stake.
  • ETH remains above its 20-day EMA, with $2,500 acting as the next major resistance.

Ethereum price has recovered to around $2,443 after falling to about $2,370 earlier this week. The rebound comes as Ethereum’s Multi Party Block Construction upgrade goes live and BitMine Immersion Technologies moves closer to holding 5% of ETH’s total supply.

ETH gained about 1.9% over the past 24 hours, although it remains down 1.6% over the last seven days. Over the past 30 days, ETH is still up 28.7%.

The recovery followed a sharp selloff on Sept. 15, when Ethereum fell more than 6% as the broader crypto market weakened. The decline came after the US Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, pushing Bitcoin close to a four-week low and adding pressure across major cryptocurrencies.

Ethereum Upgrade Adds a Fresh Catalyst

Ethereum’s Multi Party Block Construction (MPBC) went live on mainnet on Sept. 16. The upgrade allows multiple builders to contribute transactions to the same block.

Under Ethereum’s existing proposer-builder separation system, builders compete to have their blocks selected by validators. MPBC allows additional builders to append eligible transactions before the block reaches the proposer.

The change is designed to improve transaction inclusion and reduce reliance on a single builder for block contents. It operates at Ethereum’s infrastructure layer, so it does not change ETH’s supply or directly create new demand for ETH.

Still, the upgrade gives Ethereum a network-specific development as the wider crypto market remains under pressure.

Institutional buying is also providing support. BitMine increased its Ethereum holdings by another 27,180 ETH during the previous week, taking its total treasury to 5,956,378 ETH, according to its Sept. 14 disclosure.

That position represents roughly 4.9% of Ethereum’s estimated 122 million ETH supply, putting BitMine close to its 5% target. The company had 5,067,309 ETH staked as of Sept. 7, representing about 85% of its current holdings.

US spot Ethereum ETF flows, however, have been mixed. The funds recorded $216.4 million in net inflows on Sept. 11 and $121.1 million on Sept. 14 before posting $142.3 million in net outflows on Sept. 15.

This suggests ETF flows alone do not explain Ethereum’s latest recovery.

ETH Price Faces $2,500 Resistance

ETH is trading slightly above its 20-day EMA, which stands at around $2,434.49. Holding above this level keeps the short-term recovery intact, but the $2,500 area remains a major hurdle.

Ethereum has struggled to hold above $2,500 several times since late August. A sustained move above that level could put the September high near $2,550 back into focus, followed by the August spike around $2,650.

The other major daily moving averages remain below the current price. The 50-day EMA is around $2,282.66, while the 200-day and 100-day EMAs stand near $2,210.12 and $2,162.19, respectively.

A daily close below the 20-day EMA would weaken the current recovery and put the $2,370 area back in focus. If ETH falls below that recent low, the 50-day EMA near $2,283 would become the next major support area.

Ethereum’s daily RSI has also cooled from the elevated levels seen during its August rally. The indicator currently sits around 53.90, above the neutral 50 level but below its RSI moving average at 60.03.

On the four-hour chart, ETH has rebounded from the Sept. 16 low but remains below the $2,480-$2,500 resistance cluster. Aroon Up is at 35.71%, while Aroon Down has fallen to 0%.

OBV has also started to recover after dropping sharply during the Sept. 15 and Sept. 16 selloff. A continued rise in both ETH price and OBV could provide stronger volume support for a move toward $2,500.

For now, $2,434 remains an important short-term level for Ethereum price, while $2,500-$2,550 forms the main resistance zone on the upside.
