IOTA Expands Blockchain Use in Trade, Supply Chains, and Digital Identity

IOTA is sharpening its focus on enterprise blockchain adoption, highlighting practical use cases across global trade, supply chains, and digital identity. A recent update to iota.org reorganizes the network’s work around real-world applications, signaling a clear shift toward solving long-standing inefficiencies in data sharing, verification, and asset management.

The revamped website groups IOTA’s activity into five core areas: real-world asset tokenization, trade and supply chains, digital identity, product lifecycle integrity, and decentralized finance. Together, these sectors reflect IOTA’s broader aim of bringing trust, transparency, and automation to industries that still rely heavily on manual and document-based processes.

IOTA Targets Trade and Supply Chain Inefficiencies

In trade and supply chains, IOTA offers shared infrastructure for secure data exchange between organizations. It keeps all information authentic and under each party’s control. The global trade market is estimated at $33 trillion. Paperwork-heavy processes still cause delays and high operational costs. IOTA aims to digitize these workflows to improve efficiency and reduce errors.

One highlighted project is Salus, a trade finance initiative focused on tokenizing shipments of critical minerals. Salus issues key trade documents as NFTs anchored on the IOTA ledger. Smart contracts then automate title transfers, collateral management, and payment execution, creating a verifiable and auditable trail from inspection to delivery.

Another major initiative is the Trade Worldwide Information Network (TWIN). Built on IOTA, TWIN enables instant and secure cross-border trade data exchange between countries. The platform is designed to support paperless trade, improve traceability, and enhance coordination among supply chain participants.

Digital Identity as a Trust Layer

Digital identity is another central pillar of IOTA’s enterprise strategy. The network presents its tools as a trust layer for verifiable digital interactions, built on W3C-aligned standards for credentials and authentication. The goal is to enable privacy-preserving identity checks and reusable credentials that reduce repeated verification across services.

Deployments such as Impierce and Turing Space demonstrate how credential issuance and verification can support secure digital services while giving users greater control over their data.

Infrastructure Built for Real-World Use

To support these applications, IOTA offers flexible infrastructure options, including a Move-based IOTA Mainnet and an optional IOTA EVM environment. Builders can choose the setup that best fits their needs, alongside enterprise-ready identity and tokenization tools.

Product lifecycle integrity rounds out the strategy, enabling verifiable records from sourcing through recycling to support compliance and sustainability reporting.

IOTA is trading around $0.08 at the time of writing, showing a slight pullback amid increased trading activity this week.
