- IOTA has launched a native Bitcoin bridge via Echo Protocol, allowing users to mint iBTC and integrate Bitcoin into its DeFi ecosystem.
- This expands DeFi opportunities, including lending, staking, and stablecoin minting with $VUSD for iBTC holders.
IOTA is making Bitcoin more accessible in decentralized finance (DeFi) by introducing a native Bitcoin bridge via the Echo Protocol. This allows users to mint iBTC, a Bitcoin-backed asset on the IOTA’s network, and use it in a variety of DeFi applications.

Echo Protocol Brings Bitcoin to IOTA
The Echo Protocol now supports a native Bitcoin bridge on IOTA. Users can mint iBTC through the IOTA Vault by bridging native Bitcoin, liquid staking tokens (LSTs), and wrapped BTC. This consolidation improves capital efficiency and opens up opportunities for earning yields in DeFi.
By unifying fragmented Bitcoin liquidity, Echo Protocol makes it easier for users to bring BTC into IOTA. They can now participate in lending, staking, and other DeFi strategies backed by Bitcoin. This step is a key move toward Bitcoin-based DeFi (BTCFi) on IOTA’s.
iBTC Works with Virtue for More DeFi Options
iBTC holders can also interact with Virtue, IOTA’s native stablecoin protocol. Virtue allows users to mint $VUSD, offering stable lending and deep integration with other ecosystem protocols like Swirl Stake and Pools Finance.
This partnership makes iBTC more versatile. Users can leverage it for liquid staking, restaking, and other yield-focused strategies, increasing Bitcoin’s utility in IOTA’s DeFi ecosystem.
Market Strength for IOTA
IOTA is trading at approximately $0.1707, up 0.79% in the last 24 hours, with daily trading volumes around $16.2 million. While the growth is modest, it reflects ongoing adoption and interest in IOTA’s expanding DeFi ecosystem.
Simplifying Bitcoin in DeFi
Echo Protocol streamlines Bitcoin use by consolidating different BTC forms into a single platform. This makes liquidity management easier and helps users earn higher returns. With iBTC, IOTA unifies fragmented Bitcoin liquidity and strengthens its role as a hub for BTC-backed DeFi.
