IOTA Launches Gas Station v0.2 With Six New Web3 Features

  • IOTA Gas Station v0.2 lets developers sponsor gas fees, enabling wallet-free Web3 access with advanced control tools.
  • The upgrade introduces six new features to improve security, customization, and ease of onboarding for IOTA’s blockchain ecosystem.

IOTA has released Gas Station v0.2-alpha, a major upgrade that makes using Web3 applications easier. The tool removes the need for users to buy, hold, or manage IOTA tokens. Instead, developers and businesses can pay gas fees for their users. This approach lowers barriers and helps more people join the blockchain space.

The Gas Station is fully self-hosted. It gives sponsors control over which transactions to support and under what rules. With v0.2, IOTA adds new features to make gas sponsorship smarter, safer, and more flexible.

Six Powerful Features in v0.2

Gas Caps let sponsors set limits on how much gas an address can use in a set time. This prevents abuse and allows freemium-style access.

Command Count Filtering restricts the number of commands in a transaction. This stops hidden batched logic and makes policies easier to enforce.

Package Filtering allows whitelisting of specific Move packages by ID. Only trusted smart contracts get sponsored fees.

Rego-Based Policies bring custom rules for real-time decisions. Sponsors can approve or block a transaction based on its details.

Live Rule Reloading updates policies instantly without service restarts. This helps react fast to threats or misuse.

External Rule Sources load policies from Redis, local files, or HTTP endpoints. Rules can change without redeploying the service.

Why It Matters for IOTA

Gas Station v0.2 removes the need for users to handle crypto wallets. This makes blockchain tools easier for beginners and helps grow the IOTA token economy. It is open-source, decentralized, and built for developers.

IOTA Network Update

In May 2025, IOTA launched its Rebased Protocol and MoveVM-based mainnet. Soon after, the community proposed the IOTA Network Fund (SGP-0012) to boost infrastructure, marketing, exchange listings, and education.

Voting is open until August 18. The proposal needs 100 votes to pass. Meanwhile, IOTA’s price has climbed 16% in a week and 7.77% in the past 24 hours, now trading at $0.2148.

IOTA Gas Station v0.2 is more than a technical upgrade. It is a gateway for mainstream users to join Web3 without wallet complications.
