Pi Network Completes SLICE Test as 242,000 Pioneers Explore New Liquidity Pool System

Pi Network has completed its second Launchpad test, giving thousands of users a practical introduction to decentralized finance (DeFi) features before the Mainnet Launchpad goes live.

More than 242,000 Pioneers participated in the SLICE Testnet event, in which they received and traded test tokens via a new liquidity pool model. The experiment focused on teaching users how ecosystem tokens could work within Pi-powered applications rather than raising funds.

In the Pi Launchpad model, projects issue tokens as tools to acquire users for their applications and integrate those tokens directly into product functionality, such as access, payments, rewards, and governance.

Instead of being taken by the issuing project, the proceeds of Pi…

Over 242,000 Pioneers Took Part in the SLICE Test

The SLICE Testnet campaign ran from June 11 to June 28 and distributed 10 million SLICE test tokens to participants.

During the event, users committed a combined 15.92 million Test-Pi to receive token allocations. Unlike the first Launchpad test, SLICE was integrated into the live Slice of Pi game. This allowed the Pi Core Team to measure user engagement in a real application rather than on a demonstration platform.

The updated participation process also simplified the experience. Users only needed to choose how much Test-Pi to commit, while the system automatically calculated token allocations and engagement rewards.

Pi Network Introduces a Different Launch Model

Instead of sending contributed Test-Pi to the project behind the token, Pi Network directed every contribution into a liquidity pool alongside SLICE.

This approach is designed to create trading liquidity from the beginning while allowing ecosystem tokens to serve practical purposes inside applications. According to Pi Network, these tokens could eventually support payments, premium features, rewards, governance, and access to services across the ecosystem.

The liquidity pool also works alongside Pi DEX’s traditional order book while using an Automated Market Maker (AMM) to determine token swap prices.

How the SLICE Liquidity Pool Changes Prices

Pi Network explained that the liquidity pool follows the standard AMM formula:

SLICE Reserve × Test-Pi Reserve = Constant

The pricing mechanism works as follows:

  1. The pool starts with 10 SLICE and 10 Test-Pi, creating a constant value of 100.
  2. A user purchases 5 SLICE, leaving only 5 SLICE in the pool.
  3. To maintain the constant, the Test-Pi reserve increases to 20.
  4. The buyer adds another 10 Test-Pi to the pool, excluding transaction fees.

As a result, fewer SLICE tokens remain available, making each remaining token more expensive. When users sell SLICE back into the pool, the opposite happens. The SLICE supply increases, the Test-Pi reserve falls, and the displayed price moves lower.

Pioneers Can Now Track SLICE Activity

Following the token distribution, participants can now access several new features, including:

  • Individual SLICE allocations
  • Launch and effective token prices
  • The SLICE liquidity pool
  • A live chart showing SLICE price movements against Test-Pi

Although SLICE is a Testnet token and will not migrate to Mainnet, the trial gives users hands-on experience with liquidity pools, automated pricing, and token swaps before Pi Network launches ecosystem tokens on Mainnet.

Why the SLICE Test Matters

The SLICE experiment marks another step in Pi Network’s effort to prepare its community for future decentralized applications. By allowing users to interact with liquidity pools and AMM-based trading in a live environment, the project can collect real-world data while helping Pioneers understand how future ecosystem tokens may function.

The insights gathered from the test are expected to help refine the Pi Launchpad ahead of its official Mainnet release, where ecosystem projects could use similar mechanics for payments, rewards, governance, and application access.
