Pi Network is entering a critical phase as it rolls out new identity features and gears up for one of its largest token unlocks in 2026. The network is testing palm print authentication, discussing potential governance voting, and preparing to release 189 million Pi tokens in February, marking a milestone for the project.

Palm ID Beta Enhances Security

Pi Network has launched a beta version of its palm print authentication system. This feature is part of the network’s KYC upgrades and aims to verify that each account belongs to a real, physically present user. Using biometric “liveness” checks, the system helps prevent fake or duplicate accounts while maintaining user privacy.

Currently, only a small group of users can test Palm ID during the mainnet migration. It follows earlier face verification tools and signals Pi’s commitment to stronger identity verification as the ecosystem grows. For the community, this development demonstrates the project’s focus on building a verified Web3 economy and improving trust on the network.

Governance Voting Remains Unconfirmed

Unofficial reports suggest Pi Network could hold a seven-day governance vote starting March 22, 2026. This vote would allow users to have a say in future project decisions. However, Pi’s core team has not confirmed these plans, leaving the schedule unverified.

Despite the uncertainty, community interest is high. Users are discussing the potential for increased user control, reflecting the network’s goal of decentralization. Until an official announcement is made, governance voting remains speculative, but it highlights the growing engagement within the Pi community.

February Brings Largest Token Unlock Yet

February is expected to see the largest Pi token release so far, with around 189 million tokens entering circulation. This follows January’s 134 million-token unlock and is part of a planned distribution from 2025 to 2027. The gradual release strategy is designed to build liquidity over time.

While token unlocks increase supply, they also carry selling pressure, testing whether Pi’s ecosystem and app adoption can support demand. Pi now has over 16 million migrated users and more than 200 apps, making this unlock a key measure of the network’s market resilience.

Pi Network is clearly in a transition phase. Palm ID emphasizes security and trust, governance discussions point toward user participation, and token unlocks test the ecosystem’s strength. The coming months will reveal how ready Pi is for broader decentralization and whether these updates can sustain its growing community.
