Pi Network has issued a crucial deadline for all node operators as it prepares for its upcoming open mainnet phase. The project requires node operators to install version 19.6 by February 12, 2026. This mandatory update drives a broader multi-stage protocol upgrade that improves security, performance, and scalability.

Critical Node Upgrade Required Before Mainnet Launch

The Pi core team emphasized that version 19.6 is the only active and supported release at this stage. The network is gradually transitioning from v19 toward v23, and users are strongly advised not to skip versions or jump ahead. This staged approach ensures network stability and keeps all nodes synchronized before the mainnet launch.

🚨Node operators, take note! The mandatory upgrade to v19.6 is due Feb 12. This is a critical step in a multi-stage protocol upgrade to strengthen the network for our 16M+ Mainnet Pioneers and the upcoming Open Network. Keep our foundation strong💥 #PiNetwork @fen_leng pic.twitter.com/f05EbnJjIM

Node operators play a critical role in Pi Network, validating transactions and maintaining network integrity. The v19.6 upgrade includes enhancements inspired by the Stellar protocol, with features such as zero-knowledge tools designed to boost privacy and efficiency. With over 16 million Pioneers already migrated to the mainnet, the update is crucial for sustaining the network’s growth and functionality.

Version 19.6 Boosts Security and Network Performance

Pi Network is finalizing tests for KYC validator rewards and plans to distribute them as early as March 2026. KYC validators verified user identities, allowing millions of accounts to join the mainnet.

The upcoming reward rollout addresses a long-standing request from the community, many of whom have worked for years without direct compensation. By rewarding these contributors, Pi Network aims to improve engagement and morale ahead of the open network phase.

KYC Rewards Set for March Distribution

The announcements have sparked varied responses among Pi users. Some praised the technical improvements and reward plans as positive steps toward the mainnet launch. Others expressed frustration over delays in KYC approvals, uneven reward distribution, and slow migration processes. Despite these concerns, the Pi core team remains focused on its roadmap for early 2026.

For now, February 12 remains the key date for node operators. Marking a critical checkpoint in Pi Network’s journey toward a fully operational open network.
