  • Ripple has joined Singapore’s BLOOM initiative to test trade finance using the XRP Ledger and RLUSD stablecoin.
  • The pilot focuses on faster, automated cross-border settlements through smart contract technology.

Ripple is stepping deeper into real-world finance as it explores new trade finance solutions in Asia. The move signals growing interest in blockchain-based settlement systems backed by regulators.

Ripple Joins Singapore’s BLOOM Initiative

Ripple has joined the BLOOM initiative led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The program focuses on improving settlement systems using tokenized assets and regulated stablecoins.

BLOOM, short for Borderless, Liquid, Open, Online, Multi-currency, aims to modernize how cross-border transactions are handled. Ripple’s involvement highlights its push into regulated financial infrastructure.

The company is working alongside Unloq to test a new trade finance model. This collaboration targets faster and more reliable settlement processes.

XRP Ledger and RLUSD Power Trade Settlements

At the center of the pilot is the XRP Ledger, combined with Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.

Unloq’s SC+ platform uses smart contracts to automate payments. Once shipment conditions are verified, payments are released instantly. This removes delays often seen in traditional trade finance systems.

The use of RLUSD allows transactions to remain stable in value, while the XRP Ledger ensures speed and transparency. Together, they create a system designed for efficiency and trust.

Ripple Expands Its Global Strategy

This marks Ripple’s third major announcement in recent weeks. The company has been expanding quickly across different areas of finance.

It recently upgraded its platform into a full stablecoin infrastructure. It also secured an Australian financial services license through acquisition. Now, it is testing central bank-backed trade finance solutions.

These steps show a clear strategy to build a complete ecosystem for digital payments and settlement.

Singapore Remains Key to Ripple’s Growth

Singapore continues to play a major role in Ripple’s expansion. The company established its Asia-Pacific headquarters there in 2017.

Regulatory support from the Monetary Authority of Singapore has helped drive innovation. In late 2024, Ripple received approval to expand its payment services under its Major Payment Institution license.

This allows Ripple to offer token-based settlements using assets like XRP and RLUSD to banks and fintech firms.

The Asia-Pacific region remains Ripple’s fastest-growing market, with Singapore at its core.

RLUSD Gains More Market Exposure

Ripple USD (RLUSD) is also gaining traction in global markets. The stablecoin was recently listed on the Korean crypto exchange Coinone.

This listing increases access and liquidity for RLUSD, supporting its use in real-world applications like trade finance.

Ripple’s latest move shows how blockchain is entering traditional finance. By combining XRP Ledger technology with stablecoins, the company is testing faster and more efficient trade systems.

If successful, this initiative could reshape how cross-border trade payments are handled in the future.
