- Solana (SOL) slipped below $82 after failing to break its upper consolidation range, as a less dovish Fed tone dampened risk appetite.
- Mixed on-chain and derivatives signals show cautious trader positioning, limiting short-term recovery prospects.
Solana (SOL) slipped below $82 on Thursday after failing to break out of its recent upper consolidation range. The mixed signals from the Federal Reserve (Fed) and on-chain data have created uncertainty, limiting the cryptocurrency’s short-term recovery potential.
Fed Minutes Weigh on Risk Appetite
The Wednesday release of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Minutes revealed a less dovish stance than markets had hoped. Policymakers remained divided over the timing of potential rate cuts, with some emphasizing the risk of easing too early, while others suggested rate reductions if inflation eases as expected.
This cautious tone boosted the US Dollar Index (DXY), which closed above $97.69, and contributed to a risk-off sentiment in markets. Bitcoin fell below $67,000, and SOL followed suit, signaling increased selling pressure on cryptocurrencies.
Mixed Signals Limit Recovery Prospects
On-chain metrics and derivatives data indicate uncertainty among traders. Santiment’s Social Dominance metric for Solana, which measures the share of SOL-related discussions, has been trending downward, reaching 0.074% on Thursday. The drop signals fading investor interest.

Institutional activity showed some positive inflows, with spot ETFs recording $2.4 million on Wednesday—the longest streak since February 10. Yet, SOL price failed to respond, reflecting cautious trading and persistent selling pressure.

Derivatives data reinforce this indecision. CoinGlass’ OI-Weighted Funding Rate shows a negative reading of -0.0133%, indicating that traders betting on further declines are outnumbering those anticipating gains.

Conversely, the SOL long-to-short ratio stands at 1.44, suggesting some bullish sentiment is still present. This mix of bearish and bullish signals is keeping SOL in a tight range.

Price Outlook and Key Levels
SOL was rejected from the upper consolidation boundary at $89.38 over the weekend and has since dropped 7.32%, hovering below $82. If SOL closes under the lower consolidation support at $76.45, losses could extend toward the February 6 low of $67.50.

Technical indicators remain mixed. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 32, moving toward oversold territory, while the MACD shows a bullish crossover on Sunday, suggesting upside potential remains if recovery gains traction. A break above the $89.38 zone could see SOL target the psychological $100 level.
Investors are advised to monitor these key levels closely, as Solana’s next move will likely depend on both broader market sentiment and technical confirmations.
