  • Tether will launch its open-source Wallet Development Kit (WDK) this week, enabling developers to create secure self-custody wallets.
  • The move aims to expand DeFi access and could lead to trillions of new wallets worldwide.

Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, will release its open-source Wallet Development Kit (WDK) this week. The new tool aims to make it easier for developers to create secure, customizable, and non-custodial wallets for both mobile and desktop users.

Tether will release this week WDK, the Wallet Development Kit, 100% open-source.

WDK contains also a Starter Wallet for both iOS and Android.

A Push for Self-Custody and Security

According to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, the WDK includes a starter wallet that supports USDT, USDT0, and several DeFi functions such as lending and swapping. The wallet has already undergone a full security audit, ensuring strong protection at the code level.

By using the kit, developers can create wallets that remove dependence on third parties. This gives users full control over their funds, which remains a key demand within the crypto community. Ardoino said the WDK could lead to the creation of trillions of new self-custody wallets worldwide.

Simple Design for Developers

The WDK Template Wallet was created for developers who want flexibility and security. Teams can fork the template, add branding, and launch their own wallets with minimal effort. It also features cross-platform compatibility, meaning it can run smoothly on iOS, Android, and desktop systems.

Tether added reusable UI components and seed backup options to make onboarding easier. These tools shorten development cycles while maintaining a focus on security and usability.

USDT Expansion and Market Strength

Tether recently minted almost $1.5 billion in USDT on the Ethereum blockchain, raising its total supply to around $180 billion. Although the company clarified that these tokens are “authorized but not issued,” the move highlights its readiness to meet growing market demand.

Tether now controls over 56% of the stablecoin market, maintaining its lead while introducing innovations that support the broader DeFi ecosystem. With the WDK release, the company aims to empower both developers and users, driving the next phase of digital wallet growth.
