XRP Price Pullback Highlights Short-Term Risk and Long-Term Potential

  • XRP fell 6% to $2.75 amid broader crypto market declines and heavy institutional selling.
  • Despite the drop, Ripple’s ongoing developments like RLUSD and an EVM sidechain strengthen its long-term outlook.

The cryptocurrency market continues to surprise investors, and XRP’s recent price movement is a clear reminder. On September 26, 2025, XRP fell 6%, dropping from approximately $2.92 to $2.75. While this decline may seem modest, it occurred amid heavy trading and heightened market uncertainty.

What Caused the XRP Decline

XRP’s dip followed a broader crypto market downturn. Bitcoin fell below $109,000, marking its lowest level in weeks, while Ethereum dropped around 8% to roughly $3,800. Combined, these losses triggered over $1.1 billion in market sell-offs, largely from traders overleveraging their positions.

Institutional activity also played a key role. Around $277 million worth of XRP was traded, with whales moving approximately 160 million coins valued at $476 million over two weeks in mid-September. These moves contributed to XRP’s market cap falling nearly $19 billion in just one week, breaking below the psychologically important $3 level.

Broader economic conditions added pressure. U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s comments on persistent inflation and the unlikelihood of significant rate cuts discouraged investment in riskier assets. Even the approval of the first U.S. XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF) could not offset cautious sentiment.

Ripple’s Progress Remains Strong

Despite short-term price swings, Ripple continues to develop its ecosystem. Recent advancements include the launch of the RLUSD stablecoin, an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain to attract developers, and a growth in XRP Ledger wallets, now exceeding 7 million. These improvements strengthen the network’s technical foundation, highlighting a contrast between market sentiment and long-term fundamentals.

XRP Key Levels and Market Outlook

Traders are closely watching the $2.75 support level. If it holds, XRP could rebound toward $3. A breakdown may test $2.70 or lower. Market performance will also depend on Bitcoin and upcoming $23 billion options expiries, which could drive short-term volatility.

Potential Scenarios

If U.S. inflation eases and more crypto ETFs gain approval, institutional inflows could push XRP above $3. Ripple’s banking license application and new partnerships may also provide support. Conversely, strong economic data and continued whale selling could push prices closer to $2.50. Long-term forecasts remain cautiously optimistic, with some analysts predicting $3.5–$5 in 2025 and up to $10 by 2026 if adoption accelerates.

XRP’s recent decline underscores the balance between short-term market pressures and long-term potential. For investors, it is both a reminder of risk and a window of opportunity in the evolving crypto landscape.
