  • Ripple has launched its $700M RLUSD stablecoin in Africa with Chipper Cash, VALR, and Yellow Card.
  • It aims to simplify cross-border payments and provide secure financial solutions.

Ripple has launched its $700 million RLUSD stablecoin in Africa to make cross-border payments faster, cheaper, and more secure. The company partnered with Chipper Cash, VALR, and Yellow Card to bring the stablecoin to users across the continent.

Ripple Key Partnerships Boost Adoption

RLUSD, a U.S. dollar–backed stablecoin, has already gained traction in Asia and Europe. In Africa, Ripple will integrate RLUSD with leading fintech platforms to help businesses and individuals make cost-efficient cross-border transactions.

Chipper Cash expects RLUSD to accelerate payments across Africa. VALR emphasizes that listing compliant digital assets strengthens trust in the market. Yellow Card reports that customers increasingly want stablecoins for secure treasury management and international payments.

Global Expansion of RLUSD

Ripple continues to expand RLUSD globally. The stablecoin is already available in Japan through SBI Holdings and in Europe under the EU’s MiCA framework. Ripple recently added $24 million to RLUSD’s supply to meet growing demand worldwide.

Jack McDonald, Ripple’s Senior VP of Stablecoins, said the company expanded RLUSD in Africa to meet rising demand for secure, enterprise-ready digital assets. Businesses now use RLUSD for payments, tokenization, and collateralized trading, showing the coin’s versatility beyond standard remittances.

Ripple Innovative Use Cases in Africa

In Kenya, Mercy Corps Ventures uses RLUSD for climate-related projects. The stablecoin powers automated drought and rainfall insurance programs, with smart contracts triggering payouts based on satellite data.

Ripple also integrated RLUSD with DeFi platforms like Aave’s Horizon, allowing users to leverage the coin as collateral in decentralized finance markets.

A New Era for African Payments

By launching RLUSD, Ripple provides a reliable, compliant alternative to costly cross-border transactions. The stablecoin helps African markets connect to global liquidity and supports the growth of digital payments across the continent.
